Terrific TESAC Conference for Staff

Staff who attended a Technology Education Conference recently in Christchurch were treated to four days of learning, and the bonus of some delicious culinary delights courtesy of Nadia Lim!

At the beginning of the Term 1 School holidays, Mr Earl, Mr McNaught, Mrs Hughes and Miss Lewis traveled to Christchurch for the TESAC (Technology Education Subject Association Coalition) conference. The 4-day conference was held at Canterbury University and included a range of Technology and Food & Nutrition related workshops and hosted approximately 450 teachers from around New Zealand. Miss Lewis and Mrs Hughes were lucky enough to be selected to attend a masterclass with Nadia Lim, where they tasted some of the amazing dishes Nadia cooked using produce and meat from her farm, Royalburn station.

Some key highlights from the conference were;

  • Using illustrator for laser cutting
  • Learning how to access Māori visual language
  • Material manipulation, and
  • Exploring innovation and upcycling with textiles.

We also went to seminars on the importance of manaakitanga and kai, and enjoyed learning about the latest nutritional evidence regarding the health of our young people. As well as having the chance to collaborate with other teachers from around the country and discuss the new Level 1 NCEA standards, we all took something new away from this experience that we can incorporate into our teaching back at Trinity.
